Appreciation Dinner held for Stanford-Duplin Extension Community Association

On October 26, 2021, the Stanford-Duplin ECA (Extension Community Association) held an Appreciation Dinner at Duplin County Cooperative Extension, Ed Emory Auditorium.  Five members were honored for giving so much of their education, knowledge, and skills to sustain the Association.  

Mae Bell Satchell

Delilah Gomes, Annie Pickett, Mae Bell Satchel, Helen Ford and Eloise Coston were recognized for their outstanding service and their great legacy will be remembered. These members starting back as far as 1997, have donated thousands of volunteer hours, won local, district and state competitions in cultural art and the won many awards.

These ladies leave a great legacy of gifts, time, and talents to ECA, they have worn many hats over the years. ECA appreciates each one of you for being excellent team members and part of our lives.

What is ECA?

The North Carolina Extension Community Association is a creative and motivated group with focus on strengthening families’ quality of life.  Our organization has been around over 100 years and has helped thousands of individuals through community projects.

The purpose of the ECA is to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of living and to provide continuing education, leadership development and community service.

Annie Ruth Pickett

Members attend monthly club meetings where they receive educational information through a leader or guest speaker. During meetings members discuss projects they would like to do, upcoming community events and, and project success.  

The membership of the ECA is composed of members at all levels” local, county district, and state.  Membership is open to all regardless of color, creed, national origin, race, sex, age, or disability.

We are part of a statewide volunteer organization. We have volunteered in the following activities: Assisting in preparing nutritious foods for school children; Sewing for nursing homes: lap throws, blankets, adult bibs, and activity aprons; Knitting hats for school children; Giving personal item to the Boys and Girls Club in Lake Waccamaw, etc.  Join us in making a difference in our community.

Highlights of honorees 

Delilah Gomes

Joined in 1997, she has received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. 

Annie Pickett

Joined in 2009, she has received the 20,000 CVU (Community Volunteer Units) plate.

Mae Bell Satchell

Joined in 2008, she was named Club Woman of the Year in 2018.

Helen Diana Ford

Joined in 2016, she has assisted with the 4-H Club Sewing Workshops.

Eloise Coston

Joined in 2013, she received Best of show out of 150 items in 2017. Ms. Coston has won Outstanding Volunteer State Leader.
