Benchmark Court apartments fire now under investigation

On November the 29th of 2021, one of our officers was asked to escort an individual to their apartment at Benchmark Court apartments. On arrival, smoke was discovered coming out of the apartment.
The Kenansville Fire Dept. was called in reference to a smoke investigation that was determined to be a structure fire in progress.
Kenansville Fire Department, along with Warsaw Fire Department arrived to control and extinguish the fire before it could spread. Not enough can be said about their remarkable efforts to save property and protect the tenants.
The fire was determined to be of suspicious origin and an investigation is currently underway.
