Business Spotlight: Carlton Insurance Agency

In 1934, Duplin County Farmer David H. Carlton began represented Jefferson Standard Insurance company. He worked with and served other farmers and businesses in the community to build what would become Carlton Insurance Agency. He was joined by his two sons, Hugh and Fisher Carlton. Presently, Carlton Insurance Agency has his grandson and his great granddaughter carrying the family business to the next generation.

“Our mission is to be the best insurance agency in rural North and South Carolina,” said Nelson Carlton, the grandson. “We provide professional service, insurance markets and expertise to our commercial, agribusiness and personal lines customers.”

Nelson Carlton joined Carlton Insurance in 1995 and specialized in agribusiness and commercial lines insurance. Before entering the insurance business and after his graduating from NC State University, he spent nine years with Quinn Wholesale Company, in Warsaw as a company buyer of perishable goods and Director of Human Resources. Nelson has served the community of Duplin County on several boards including, the economic development commission, the county planning board, and he is currently a director for the Duplin County Veterans Museum. He is a native of Duplin County.

Carlton Insurance Agency is open on Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at 212 N. Pine Street, Warsaw, and 302 W Main Street in Beulaville.

“We enjoy working together and within our community,” said Carlton. “We strive for growth in what we can offer our customers. Each member of our team is constantly in training and enrolled in advanced insurance education, besides the Continuing Education required by the state. We love what we do!”
