Congratulations Mr. Andrew Wilson, B.F. Grady Elementary Teacher of the Year 2022-2023

From B.F. Grady Elementary School’s Website

Mr. Wilson is one of the most dedicated people I know. He is an extremely punctual and reliable person. Out of his 10 years of teaching, he has only been absent one day. He prides himself on showing up for the kids every day and on time!

Mr. Wilson is a driven individual. Every year he reflects on his instruction and perfects his craft. He is able to “cut the fluff” to get students where they need to be. He sets high expectations for his kids and they rise to meet them every year. Speaking of which, Mr. Wilson has been named NC Top teacher for his remarkable EOG test scores year after year. I’ve lost count, but I know he has exceeded growth for at least the past 5 years.

His students absolutely adore him. He has the ability to joke and use his sense of humor with kids in a way that wins them over. They believe anything he tells them and hang on to his every word! The atmosphere in his classroom is competitive and fun. As a colleague, I enjoy working alongside Mr. Wilson. He is willing to put in the work and help make our day-to-day activities run smoothly. His common-sense approach is helpful when tasks are daunting or overwhelming. In the past four years, Mr. Wilson has taken a special interest in helping new teachers get acclimated to the 4th/5th hallway. He shares many resources and is always willing to offer sage advice.

He contributes so much to our school. He has served as a SIT representative and grade level chair for more than 5 years, he has served as a volleyball coach in years past and is the current coach of Elementary Battle of the Books.

During remote learning, Mr. Wilson made countless home visits (alongside Mrs. Carroway) to ensure students were learning, being held accountable, and providing them with assistance. This is just one area where he went above and beyond his duties.

He takes his role as an educator very seriously. He builds relationships with students and is a highly respected professional in the field. More importantly, he’s a good friend and colleague to all. He’s an awesome educator and he would make a wonderful Principal or District leader someday!
