Duplin County declares an open-burning ban

WHEREAS, conditions across Duplin County have been, and are expected to remain severely dry, with lack of  sufficient precipitation; and 

WHEREAS, as a result of the above-described possible disastrous condition, I have determined that there is an  imminent threat of, or existing conditions could cause, widespread or severe damage, injury, loss of life or  property from the environmental conditions that are conducive to the spread of wildfire; and 

WHEREAS, declaring an Open-Burning Ban and imposing the restrictions and prohibitions ordered herein is  necessary to maintain order and protect public health, safety, and welfare, and to secure property. 

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me as the Authority Having Jurisdiction, as the Fire  Marshal of Duplin County, under North Carolina General Statute Chapter 106 Section 78 and the Duplin County  Fire Prevention & Protection Ordinance. 

Section 1. An Open-Burning Ban is hereby declared within the jurisdiction of Duplin County. 

Section 2. The area covered by the Open-Burning Ban shall be the areas prescribed as the unincorporated areas  of Duplin County. These areas include any fire ignited within 100 feet of any dwelling, and with exception only  set forth by North Carolina General Statute. 

Section 3. I hereby order this declaration: (a) to be distributed to the news media and other organizations  calculated to bring its contents to the attention of the general public; (b) to be distributed to others as necessary  to ensure proper implementation of this declaration. 

Section 4. This declaration shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect until modified or rescinded.
