Duplin County farmers attend Pork Leadership Carolina program

The Pork Leadership Carolina class of 2022 met in Raleigh for their first session in the three-part program, and a couple of Duplin County farmers were in attendance.

Matthew Carter, of Joey Carter Farms, said “It’s an honor to be among the 20 some other young participants chosen by the NC Pork Council to be developed into a leader in the NC swine industry.”

The discussion focused on leadership within the industry. The NC Pork Council shared on social media that participants learned from a variety of speakers about engaging with elected officials, navigating tough conversations, and utilizing social media, among other topics.

Blake Floars, Operation Manager of Carolina Swine Integrators, says, “We are also learning how to interact with our elected officials and communicate effectively with them.”

The NC Pork Council looks forward to seeing the group again in June for their second leadership session. The final session will be held in Washington, D.C.
