Duplin County Schools compete in Battle of the Books competition

Duplin County Schools Elementary School Battle of the Books competition was held March 18th at Ed Emory Auditorium. Eight schools battled each other two at a time for 28 rounds of quiz bowl style action. The team with the highest cumulative points was named the winner.

This year that team was Kenansville Elementary School. Coached by Sam Davis, Kim Brown, Kelsey Brinkley, and Jo Ellen Boone, team members are:

Andrew Chambers

James Howard

Harlo Guy

Parker Knowles

Bodie Harper

Brody Watkins

Abel Vermalen

Andrew Wilson

Zayden Hardison

Vincent Farina

Kimora Daughtry

Kenansville Elementary will represent Duplin County in the regional competition on April 28th.

Wallace Elementary School finished in 2nd place and Beulaville Elementary finished in 3rd.

The purpose of Battle of the Books is simple – to create interest and excitement around reading. Team members from all eight schools have been reading a selection of 15 titles for months to prepare for the event. Although the competition is thrilling, the goal is not necessarily to win but to READ! So, in that regard they are all winners!
