The Master Trooper Benjamin Derek Wallace Memorial Foundation is a 501© (3) non-profit organization which is devoted to honor the memory of Trooper Wallace by making a difference in the community. Their mission is to provide financial assistance through educational scholarships to deserving students who serve as good stewards in their community. Additional funding will assist North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper families in the event of injury or death.

The first golf tournament held in Wallace’s honor. Ashleigh Lassiter, a family member and volunteer for the foundation, said, “We had a great turnout with the number of people who participated in playing as well as all the sponsors who donated who help make it all possible.”

With 20 4-man teams, the winners are:

-1st place, 1st flight:

Justin Murray, Brett Wentz, Adam Sink, Spencer Phillips

-2nd place, 1st flight:

Bob Miller, Cole Shallcross, Edwin Crute, Rick Bostic

-1st place, 2nd flight:

Justin Hunter, Rod Hall, Bron Thompson, Chad Axford

-2nd place, 2nd flight:

Tim Smith, Dewey Houston, Logan Kornegay, Harvey Taylor

When asked what would be different for next year, Lassiter said, “We hope to get the word out to more people and have an even bigger turnout next year and all the years to come. The more money we raise, the more we can do in our community to help others!”

The money raised from the tournament goes towards providing financial scholarships to high school students looking to pursue a career in criminal justice or a trade career.

Lassiter finished up by saying, “It’s incredibly important to the members of the foundation to give financially to NCSHP trooper families.”
