The Stanford Duplin ECA deliver quilts to Duplin County centers in need

The Stanford Duplin ECA has been busy bees this past few months. 

First on the list of activities, the Stanford Duplin ECA had 15 members attending the Southeast District Conference on April 26, 2022 at Johnston County Cooperative Extension. 

Second, the Club participated in their Southeast District Cultural Arts Competition, eleven of their entries were 1st place winners.  Those winners will go on to compete in the state competition in Raleigh on October 24-26, 2022.

Third in June, three of Stanford Duplin ECA members become Extension Master Food Volunteers through NCSU’s Food and Consumer Sciences program.  This has enabled and expanded the grow and outreach for the Club in some of the following areas:  4-H programs, community outreach, senior services, etc.

Fourth in June, ECA members help to monitor and judge student’s presentations for 4-H District Day at Lenoir Community College.

Finally on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Stanford-Duplin ECA delivered 100 Lap Quilts to the four of Duplin County Nursing/Rehabilitation Centers the names of the contacts and their centers are as follows.: Alicia Edge at Gardens of Rose Hill, Erica Smith at Day Springs of Wallace, Lynn Bryant at the Wallace Gardens, and the Stephanie Mitchell at the Wallace Rehabilitation Health Care Center (previously known as the Brian Center).

The quilt making project began in April 2022.  These quilts were carefully selected to be colorful, the material was to be 100% cotton (for softness), squares were cut to size, the batting placed in the center and then all the quilts were sewn and tacked.  This project was a joy for the ECA club and they enjoy serving their community.

Each of the Centers received 25 Lap Quilts. The centers were glad to received such a heart-felt gifts from the Club.  

The club has started their next project.  This project is making caddies for wheel chair and walker patients for the remaining Duplin County Nursing/Rehabilitation Centers.
