Stolen Firearm Recovered

Our Officers (and our K9 Officer) put their lives on the line every day. Stolen firearms are often used to commit violent crimes, including shooting at Police Officers. We are thankful that this one was recovered so that it cannot be used to hurt an innocent citizen or officer.

On the morning of 04/20/2022 Warsaw Police Department Patrol Officers conducted a traffic stop for an observed violation of NC Motor Vehicle Law. During the stop, probable cause was established, and a search was conducted. One of the occupants, Desmond Bethune of Clinton NC, was found wearing an empty holster. Shortly following the stop, the occupants were observed searching an area around the location of the stop with flashlights.

K9 Mya was deployed for an article search and a stolen handgun was located. Mr. Bethune was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm. He was confined in the Duplin County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
