Duplin County Sheriff's Office responds to a shooting in Pink Hill

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Hunting Club Road near Pink Hill, NC. While Duplin County Deputies checked en route to that location, they received another call that a white male subject had just arrived at an address in Lynn Ct. Beulaville, NC.

It was reported the subject was unresponsive and was suffering from a gunshot wound. Duplin County Deputies responded to both locations and secured them as crime scenes. It was believed that the two reported calls were related, due to the locations being in close proximity to each other.

Once the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they started an investigation at both locations, which involved interviewing multiple witnesses. Throughout the investigation, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office learned an altercation occurred between Zachary Woody and Jered Grady at Hunting Club Road. After the altercation, Zachary Woody was leaving the residence on Hunting Club Road when Jered Grady shot at the vehicle, striking Zachary Woody resulting in his death.

Jered Grady was charged with an open count of Murder and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle. Grady was placed in the Duplin County Jail under no bond for the murder charge and was placed under a $250,000.00 secured bond for the Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
