Duplin Review Spotlight: Duff's Café

As a staple of Beulaville known for their hamburger steak smothered in gravy and onions, Duffs Café is a family owned business established in 2012. Growing up in the restaurant industry, Duff’s owner, Janet Duff Miller, learned all she knows about southern hospitality from her parents who owned Duff’s Family Restaurant.

“Duff’s is a daily lunch staple for regulars such as a group of farmers, local CPAs, and many small business owners,” said Miller.

Regulars of Duff’s call themselves the Beulaville Mafia and gather daily for fellowship, good food, and an opportunity to slow down and enjoy conversations about the weather, politics, and current events. The staff at Duff’s know their regulars as well as they know their own families.

“I remember when my Grandaddy Winford owned the original Duff’s Restaurant,” said Duff’s eldest daughter Polly Hatcher. “I could walk from my dance studio just down the sidewalk to eat. Me and my friends would just put the chicken tenders & burgers on my tab.”

Duffs turned out to be the last career of Miller. At 50  years old, she realized she wanted to be a restaurant owner and to continue her father’s legacy.

“She eats, sleeps, and breathes her business!” Hatcher said of Miller. “She loves it. She loves her staff. They are her second family. She loves her customers. Any time she makes a decision about her business, she has them in mind.”

Both of her daughters, Hatcher and her sister Norma, grew up working in the restaurant.

“God has blessed our family greatly with this business,” said Miller. “We are thankful for his provision. We can’t wait to see what the next 10 years have in store for Duff’s.”
